Anthony Richards is a poet and librettist. He has published four books of poetry one of which, From A Satyric Country, was shown in the St Bride’s London exhibition “The Artist and the Book in England” with original woodcuts by Ian Mortimer. In 1977 there was an exhibition of the work of I M Imprimit Press with demonstrations on an Albion Press by Ian Mortimer and readings of recent poetry by Anthony Richards under the auspices of Cheltenham Festival of Literature.

As librettist with the Gloucestershire composer Tony Hewitt-Jones he completed six works which included a dramatic cantata, Edmund King and Martyr, which was performed at Framlingham with Peter Pears as soloist. With composer Keith Harrison he wrote a music/ theatre piece, The Majesty, based on the life of the painter Duccio for the 1976 Cheltenham Festival of Music, performed in the chapel of St Paul’s College and reviewed by The Guardian.

In 1976/77, he joint directed/produced with colleague John Davie, a series of filmed interviews with Michael Tippett, Edmund Rubbra, Herbert Howells and Imogen Holst as well the composer’s former pupils talking about the life of Gustav Holst and his place in English music.

Head of the Combined Arts Department at St Paul’s College, he was responsible for co-ordinating a team of dramatists, designers, musicians and technicians attempting to integrate these art forms into performance-oriented projects. His academic qualifications are M.Phil, M.Litt, Post Graduate Certificate in Radio, Film and Television, L.G.S.M and Certificate of Education. In 2004 he was made a Fellow of The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts.
